We take you to Batu Ferringhi in the north of the island, a long swathe of white sand beach with some excellent hotels offering lots of activities. The name means Foreigners Rock, coined in honour of the happy hippies who used to hang out here in the 70s. Georgetown, the capital of Penang, is a few minutes away and packed with interesting sights. Explore its Chinatown which is full of ornate temples, stunning colonial architecture, crumbling Fort Cornwallis and the colonial mansions. Visit in the evening to sample the excellent restaurants.
